Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Zimbabwe has shortlisted 11 foreign bidders for the rehabilitation of three power plants, Energy Minister Elton Mangoma said.
The upgrade of plants at Kariba and Hwange will probably boost electricity capacity by 900 megawatts, Mangoma said in a phone interview today from Harare, the capital. Companies on the shortlist include those from India, China, South Korea and Germany, he said.
“We have now streamlined the number of bidding companies from the initial ones that had indicated their willingness to reconstruct both Kariba and Hwange,” Mangoma said.
Zimbabwe’s power plants currently generate about 1,400 megawatts, according to Mangoma on Oct. 13.
