Nov. 19 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague will meet Syrian opposition leaders amid growing international pressure on President Bashar al-Assad to end crackdowns on anti- government demonstrations.
Officials from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office have been holding discussions with the Syrian opposition for several months, said a London-based spokesman, who declined to be identified in a phone interview today. Hague plans to meet Syrian opposition representatives in the “near future,” the spokesman said.
The Financial Times reported earlier today that Hague is due to meet Syrian rebel leaders on Nov. 21.
