Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama promised military veterans that the U.S. will “be here for you” just as they stepped forward to serve their country.
“Here, where our heroes come to rest, we come to show our gratitude,” Obama said today after laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, to mark the Veteran’s Day holiday.
Earlier in the day, he hosted a breakfast for veterans at the White House.
Obama is to visit the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson off the Pacific Coast later today to attend the 2011 Carrier Classic, the first college basketball contest aboard an aircraft carrier. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will play Michigan State University, reprising the 2009 NCAA tournament final, which North Carolina won 89-72.
Obama continues from there to a nine-day trip to Hawaii as well as Australia and other nations.
