China’s Imports May Exceed $8 Trillion in 5 Years, Hu Says

November 11, 2011

Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- China’s total imports may exceed $8 trillion in five years as the country focuses on expanding domestic demand, Chinese President Hu Jintao said in a statement posted on the foreign ministry’s website today.

China and U.S. trade may exceed $500 billion over the next three to four years, according to the statement. The U.S. should relax restrictions on Chinese high-tech equipment, which will help to ease the trade imbalance between the two countries and benefit the U.S. economy, the statement said.
