Venizelos Says Greek Loan Payment Will Depend on Written Pledges

November 07, 2011

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said euro area finance ministers were ready to pay the country a sixth loan instalment as soon as they received written pledges from the political parties backing a new Greek government.

“From today’s Eurogroup meeting it appears that the euro area is ready to apply the whole of the Oct. 26 decisions, beginning with the prompt payment of the sixth tranche,” Venizelos said in a statement e-mailed from his office in Athens. The payment will be made “if and as soon as the new government and the political forces supporting it confirm in writing the country’s commitments in regard to the European Council of Oct. 26.”
