Merkel Told Papandreou Austerity in Greece ’Unavoidable’

November 07, 2011

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Germany’s government said that Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou acted with “courage” to implement structural reform in his country and said the transition government must focus on pushing through the decisions of the Oct. 26-27 summit.

Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke with Papandreou by phone earlier today, government spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters today in Berlin. Merkel said that structural measures are “unavoidable,” Seibert said.
