Germany Says Greek Aid Package by End of Year Remains Goal

November 01, 2011

Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Completing the second bailout for Greece by the end of 2011 remains the European Union’s goal, the German Finance Ministry said in response to Greek plans for a referendum on austerity measures related to the aid package.

“The announcement of a possible referendum in Greece is a domestic political development on which the German government has no official information yet and which therefore it will not comment on,” the ministry said in an e-mailed statement late yesterday.

Work on the second Greek aid package is under way “with high intensity,” the statement said.
