Germany’s Lindner Says FDP Continues to Reject Minimum Wage

October 31, 2011

Oct. 31 (Bloomberg) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Free Democratic Party coalition partner continues to oppose a blanket minimum wage, FDP general secretary Christian Lindner said.

Responding to weekend reports that Merkel’s Christian Democrats are considering introducing a minimum wage acros Germany, Lindner told reporters in Berlin today that “the model isn’t yet clear to us.”

Even so, the FDP holds to the coalition agreement of two years ago that refers to wage-setting authority being retained in individual industries and rules out a blanket minimum wage, he said in comments broadcast live on N-TV.
