Ukraine’s Corn Harvest Reaches 14.1 Million Tons This Season

Oct. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Ukraine has harvested 14.1 million metric tons of corn this season, from 68 percent of the total amount planted, the Agriculture Ministry said.

The total grain harvest reached 49.64 million tons, the Kiev-based ministry said in an e-mailed statement today. Average grain yields increased to 3.5 tons per hectare (2.5 acres) this year compared with 2.78 tons in 2010, the ministry said.

Corn yields have increased to 5.76 tons a hectare from 4.4 tons a hectare last year, it said.

About 15.5 million tons of sugar beets have been harvested on 436,000 hectares, or 81 percent of the planted area, compared with 12.5 million tons a year earlier.
