NuStar to Ship Heavy Canadian Oil by Rail to New Jersey Refinery

October 28, 2011

Oct. 28 (Bloomberg) -- NuStar Energy LP plans to transport heavy Canadian crude by rail to its Paulsboro refinery in New Jersey to process into asphalt next year.

The company is in discussion to purchase Canadian crude for refinery to process during the 2012 asphalt season, Curtis Anastasio, the president and chief executive officer, said during a quarterly earnings call today.

Initial plans are for the refinery to process about 5,000 barrels a day of Canadian crude, Anastasio said during the call. The volume may be increased to 10,000 barrels a day, he said.

The oil will be transported by rail, Greg Matula, a company spokesman, said in an e-mail.

The refinery has a capacity of 74,000 barrels a day.
