Oct. 27 (Bloomberg) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the Euuropean Central Bank is an independent body, declining to comment on the central bank’s continued bond-buying program.
“The ECB is an independent institution” that has always encouraged European Union leaders to take up responsibility in fiscal policy, while the ECB handles monetary policy, Merkel told reporters in Berlin today. The enhancement of the rescue fund to allow bond-buying will make this “division of labor” better, she said.
