Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) -- European Central Bank Executive Board member Juergen Stark said asking the bank to do too much may bring its independence into question.
“When you call for the central bank to solve the crisis, then you ask too much of it, because the effectiveness of monetary policy is undermined,” Stark said at an event in Dortmund, Germany, today. “You ask too much of the central bank inasmuch as more responsibilities, more instruments, question the independence of the institution.”
