Japan Atomic Says Water Leaked at Tokai Dai-Ni Nuclear Plant

Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Japan Atomic Power Co. said water contaminated with radiation leaked at its Tokai Dai-Ni nuclear station, which is being repaired after damage in the March earthquake and tsunami. There was no radiation leaked to the environment.

The breach in a device connected to the reactor pressure vessel was plugged at 1:20 p.m. today, spokesman Mitsuru Marutani said by phone. An earlier estimate that 12,000 liters (3,166 gallons) of water leaked is being checked after an error was found, he said.

The water, which contained about 390 becquerels of radiation per liter, didn’t escape from the containment vessel, Marutani said.

There is no problem with the cooling system at the plant and no worker has been exposed to radiation, he said.
