Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K. will be the largest European market for offshore wind, Energy Secretary Chris Huhne is expected to say at a conference today in a bid to convince “green economy deniers” of the benefits of investing in British renewable energy programs.
Renewable power sources such as wind turbines and solar panels may help trigger a third industrial revolution with an impact “every bit as profound as the first two,” Huhne will say, according to excerpts released by his office in London in advance of a speech today in Manchester.
There have been more than 100 energy project announcements this fiscal year totaling about 1.7 billion pounds ($2.7 billion) of investment and creating more than 9,000 jobs in the U.K., according to the speech. Huhne is speaking at a conference in Manchester organized by RenewableUK, an industry lobby group.
“At a time when closures and cuts dominate the news cycle, next-generation industries are providing jobs and sinking capital into Britain, he said. ‘‘The revolution has already begun.’’
