Harmony Gold Says Silicosis Rate Falls to 19 Per 1,000 Workers

Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Harmony Gold Mining Ltd. said the number of silicosis cases identified at its South African operations dropped to 19 per 1,000 employees in fiscal 2011 from 21 the previous year.

Harmony identified a total of 747 suspected silicosis cases and compensated 392 during the year, the Johannesburg-based producer said in a copy of its annual report posted on its website today. New tuberculosis cases reported fell to 3,061 per 100,000 workers from 3,638, it added.
