Russian Fighter Jet Crashes Near China, Killing Pilots, RIA Says

October 20, 2011

Oct. 20 (Bloomberg) -- A Russian attack aircraft crashed in the Amur region bordering China, killing both pilots, RIA Novosti reported, citing military prosecutors.

The landing gear of the Sukhoi Su-24 failed to deploy and the aircraft caught fire after sliding off the runway today, the state-run news service said. The plane due to undergo scheduled maintenance.

Russia’s air force grounded all flights of MiG-31 fighter jets last month after two pilots died in a crash of that model of plane.
