Oct. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou won a preliminary vote in parliament on a new austerity bill in Athens today, bolstering his chances of securing further international aid for the country.
A total of 154 lawmakers in the 300-seat chamber supported the motion and 141 voted against, Parliament Speaker Grigoris Niotis said in remarks carried live on state-run Vouli TV. A total of 295 deputies voted.
The in-principle vote will be followed by a final vote on all articles and in total tomorrow.
