U.S. Stocks Decline, Sending S&P 500 Below Lowest Close for Year

October 03, 2011

Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks fell, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index below its closing low for the year, as concern over the Greek debt crisis offset an unexpected rebound in manufacturing and construction spending.

The S&P 500 dropped 1.3 percent to 1,117.17 at 12:56 p.m. New York time. The index had tumbled to a low of 1,119.46 on Aug. 8.
