Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- A Chinese services-industry index gained to 53 in September from a series-record low of 50.6 the previous month, HSBC Holdings Plc and Markit Economics said in an e-mailed statement today. A number above 50 indicates expansion.

HSBC said it was distributing the data earlier than scheduled because the number was inadvertently released to some HSBC clients. It was previously scheduled to be sent out on Oct. 8 in Beijing.
