Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks resumed their retreat after briefly erasing losses.

The FTSE 100 Index slid 0.2 percent to 5,353.22 at 8:59 a.m. in London. The gauge fell as much as 0.8 percent at the open of trading.

Inmarsat Plc and Arm Holdings Plc paced declining shares, falling 2.1 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. Lloyds Banking Group Plc gained 3.1 percent, the best performer on the FTSE 100.
