Air Berlin, Deutsche Telekom May Move: European Equity Preview

Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- The following companies’ shares may be active in European trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 1.8 percent to 229.1. The Stoxx 50 Index climbed 1.9 percent to 2,156.6. The Euro Stoxx 50 Index, a benchmark for nations using the euro, jumped 2.1 percent to 2,140.41.

Air Berlin Plc (AB1 GY): The discount airline expects to improve operating profit by 200 million euros through a savings program, which includes cutting its fleet of aircraft to 152 from 170 in the summer of 2012. The shares rose 2.8 percent to 2.75 euros.

Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE GY): The U.S. should reach a settlement that lets AT&T Inc.’s purchase of T-Mobile USA Inc. proceed, 100 Republican lawmakers said in a letter to President Barack Obama. Meanwhile, the U.S. Justice Department declined to brief a U.S. House of Representatives panel on why it sued to block the purchase of the Deutsche Telekom unit. Deutsche Telekom shares increased 4.4 percent to 8.69 euros.
