South African NUM Union to Demonstrate Over Mine Safety Tomorrow

July 22, 2011

July 22 (Bloomberg) -- South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers said “thousands” of its members will march tomorrow to protest about mine safety in the country.

The labor union plans to hand a letter of demands to the Department of Labour and the Department of Mineral Resources, it said in an e-mailed statement today.

The NUM is also planning “a national day of mourning in October when the industry will come to total a halt,” it said.
