July 19 (Bloomberg) -- AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., Africa’s largest gold producer, and Gold Fields Ltd. slid after the precious metal retreated from a record.
AngloGold declined 0.4 percent to 312.76 rand at the 5 p.m. close of trading in Johannesburg. Gold Fields, Africa’s second- largest producer, dropped 0.7 percent to 108.30 rand.
Gold futures for August delivery fell $1.70 to $1,600.70 at 11:03 a.m. on the Comex in New York. The metal had gained in the previous 10 sessions, the longest rally since January 1980.
