U.S. Stocks Pare Losses as Energy Gains Offset Factory Report

July 5 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks pared losses as gains in energy and raw-material companies offset slower growth in American factory orders than economists estimated.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell less than 0.1 percent to 1,339.26 at 10:06 a.m. in New York after slumping as much as 0.3 percent. Measures of fuel and materials companies climbed 0.8 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively, for the biggest gains among 10 industries.
