June 24 (Bloomberg) -- EDP-Energias de Portugal SA’s share of power consumption in Portugal’s liberalized electricity market stabilized in May, after declining since the start of the year.
EDP’s market share was unchanged from April, at 40.9 percent, ahead of Spanish utilities Endesa SA, with 26.3 percent, and Iberdrola SA, at 24.3 percent, the Energy Services Regulatory Authority said on its website. EDP’s share of consumption was 46.4 percent in December, and 52.7 percent in May 2010.
The liberalized market, in which rates depend on agreements between consumers and providers instead of the levels set by the regulator, accounted for 47.1 percent of mainland Portugal’s power consumption in May, up from 39 percent in December, the Lisbon-based regulator said.
