Sudanese President al-Bashir Cancels Malaysia Trip, Bernama Says

June 16, 2011

June 16 (Bloomberg) -- Sudanese President Umar al-Bashir, indicted for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court, canceled plans to visit Malaysia this week to attend a three-day dialogue, Bernama reported, citing the Southeast Asian nation’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman.

Al-Bashir has other “pressing engagements” and will be represented by the country’s foreign minister, Malaysia’s state news service said. The announcement comes amid pressure from Amnesty International for Malaysia to arrest the African leader if he enters the country, Associated Press separately reported.
