Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM:US), maker of the BlackBerry smartphone, said Chief Operating Officer Don Morrison is on medical leave and is expected to return later this year.
The company didn’t disclose the reason for his departure or when he went on leave in an e-mail today. Morrison is one of three COOs at RIM and he oversees domestic and international operations.
The company also said Larry Conlee, who left as COO of product development in 2009, is currently working as an adviser to RIM, a role he had held at various times since his departure. RIM is scheduled to report fiscal first-quarter earnings after 4 p.m. New York time today.
