RIM Shareholder Calls for Separation of Chairman, CEO Roles

June 10 (Bloomberg) -- A Research In Motion Ltd. shareholder called for the company to separate the roles of chairman and chief executive officer and to name an independent board member to the chairman’s post.

Northwest & Ethical Investments LP said that separating the two positions is consistent with best practices for corporate governance, according to a RIM securities filing today. Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis are both co-chairmen and co-CEOs at the company.
