Renesas May Outsource Component Production to Singapore, Taiwan

March 29 (Bloomberg) -- Renesas Electronics Corp. is considering outsourcing production of some components overseas after its plants suffered damage in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Renesas is in talks to outsource production of auto microcontrollers to Globalfoundries Singapore Pte, and some mobile phone semiconductor production to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Shino Inokuma, a spokesman for Renesas, said by telephone today.
The Japanese electronics maker also plans to produce microcontrollers at its plant in Kochi prefecture.
