Russia Asks Statoil to Jointly Develop Prirazlomnoye Oil Field

April 26, 2010

Russia has invited Statoil ASA (STL), a partner in OAO Gazprom’s Shtokman natural gas project, to work jointly on another Barents Sea field being developed by the Russian gas exporter’s oil arm.

“I am glad to see the Norwegian company Statoil among our partners at Shtokman, I hope we will cooperate on a range of other large projects including joint work on the Prirazlomnoye field,” said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev today at a business forum in Oslo.

Gazprom plans to start drilling the first well at Prirazlomnoye in April 2011, Alexander Mandel, head of the Moscow-based company’s offshore unit, said in February.

The company in 2008 said it aims to produce 130,000 barrels a day of oil from the field, when it also announced a delay in production until this year.
