Dynegy Boost Production at South Bay Gas Plant in California

April 16, 2010

Dynegy Inc. (DYN:US), a Houston-based power producer, returned to service a generating unit in Southern California.

The company’s 146-megawatt South Bay Unit 1 was online as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit was offline yesterday, a previous report showed.

The plant’s 175-megawatt Unit 3 and 222-megawatt Unit 4 were idled today and yesterday, reports showed.

The generators are part of a natural-gas-fired plant with a total capacity of 706 megawatts in Chula Vista, south of San Diego.

One megawatt can power about 800 typical U.S. homes.
