RRI Energy Inc., a Houston-based electricity producer, shut a Southern California natural gas- fired power plant unit.
The Mandalay Generating Station’s 130-megawatt Unit 3 was offline in a planned shutdown as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.
The unit was operating at full capacity at the same time yesterday, a previous report showed.
Two other generators at the facility were also idled for planned reasons today, the report showed.
The power station is in Oxnard, California. It has three generating units with a total capacity of 560 megawatts, according to the company’s Web site.
One megawatt can power about 800 typical U.S. homes.
