RRI Energy Inc., a Houston-based electricity producer, curtailed some production at a Southern California natural gas-fired power-plant unit.
The Mandalay Generating Station’s 215.3-megawatt Unit 2 had 115.3 megawatts idled as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.
The unit was operating at full capacity at the same time yesterday, a previous report showed.
The power station is in Oxnard, California. It has three generating units with a total capacity of 560 megawatts, according to the company’s Web site.
One megawatt can power about 800 typical U.S. homes.
