U.S. Oct. Video-Game Sales Slide 19% to $1.07 Billion, NPD Says

Nintendo Co. (7974)’s Wii console sales fell for the eighth straight month in the U.S., as a 20 percent price reduction failed to draw consumers to the world’s leading video game platform.

Industry hardware, software and accessory sales in the world’s largest video-game market fell 19 percent to $1.07 billion last month, researcher NPD Group Inc. said today in an e-mailed statement. Sales of Kyoto-based Nintendo’s Wii fell 37 percent to 506,900, while those of Sony Corp. (6758)’s PlayStation 3 rose 70 percent to 320,600. Microsoft Corp. (MSFT:US)’s Xbox 360 sales dropped 33 percent to 250,000.
