Dynegy Idles Unit at Moss Landing Power Plant in California

March 01, 2009

Dynegy Inc., a Houston-based power producer, cut output at a Northern California generating unit.

The company’s 754.3-megawatt Moss Landing Unit 6 was idled as of 3:15 p.m. yesterday, the California Independent System Operator said in a report. The unit wasn’t listed as having production idled in a Feb. 27 report.

The 755.7-megawatt Moss Landing Unit 7 was listed as idled yesterday, just as it was Feb. 27.

Dynegy’s South Bay Unit 4 in California also was listed as being idled in yesterday’s report from the California Independent System Operator. That unit has a 222-megawatt capacity.

One megawatt is enough power for about 800 average U.S. homes, according to the Energy Department in Washington.
