Jefferies Hires Daniel Markaity, Christopher Bury From Merrill

January 14, 2009

Jefferies Group Inc., (JEF:US) the New York brokerage that specializes in mid-sized companies, hired former Merrill Lynch & Co. executives Daniel Markaity and Christopher Bury as co-head’s of the firm’s fixed-income rates business.

Markaity, 52, has more than 27 years of fixed-income sales and trading experience, all at Merrill, where for the last seven years he was a managing director and head of global public credit, Jefferies said in a statement today.

Bury, 36, was most recently director and co-chief executive officer of the Merrill Lynch Government Securities Inc. business.

Jefferies has been taking advantage of the turmoil in the finance industry, hiring former executives from Bear Stearns Cos. after that firm collapsed in March, and now reaching into Merrill Lynch after Bank of America Corp.’s purchase of the New York- based investment bank this month.

Both executives are joining Jefferies as managing directors. Bury starts today and Markaity will join next month.
