Reliant Energy Inc., a Houston-based power producer, idled a California electricity generator.
The company's 320-megawatt Etiwanda Generating Station Unit 3 was shut as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a power plant-status report.
The unit, which burns natural gas, is located east of Los Angeles in Rancho Cucamonga.
One megawatt is enough for 800 typical U.S. homes.
