Advice: A successful leader in today’s business landscape has to be decisive and able to act on those decisions quickly. They must be flexible and ready for change, because those who stand pat will watch the market and the competition pass them by. It has always been important to have clarity around your goals, but today it is equally important to communicate those ideas to leadership and employees as well as to shareholders and clients.

Other paths I might have pursued: I am struggling with this question, and I take that as a sign I have followed the right path. It is a shame that sailing around the world isn't a more lucrative occupation.
The global business trend that will most influence corporate performance in the future: Getting the strategy right for the key emerging markets, India and China. By 2050, China and India are expected to account for 50% of global output, and conversely, they are a huge domestic market for goods and services as the consumer class in both countries is rising very quickly. International companies need to solidify their strategy surrounding this huge economic weight.
