Sports Endorsement Deals That Didn’t Pan Out


Athletes and corporations can be good for each other, but consider these ill-starred efforts: Joe Namath established a new cheesiness level in endorsements with a panty hose ad. Martina Navratilova lost millions by coming out. Jason Giambi’s and Tiger Woods’s ads dovetailed awkwardly with personal scandals. These and other campaigns show the darker side of trying to profit through hero worship.
