A HIKE DOWN UNDER?Feb. 4, 10:30 p.m. ESTThe Reserve Bank of Australia is expected to raise interest rates by a quarter-point, to 7%. Inflation is above the RBA's 2%-3% target.

SUPER TUESDAYFeb. 5The biggest day of the primary season, with 22 states up for grabs, including California, Illinois, and New York.Many don't expect the results will finalize a nominee for either party.

U.S. SERVICE SECTORFeb. 5, 10 a.m. ESTBusiness conditions in the service sector probably deteriorated in January. The Institute for Supply Management's nonmanufacturing activity report is expected to decline for a third straight month.

CISCO ()Feb. 6, 12 noon ESTA bellwether of tech investment spending, Cisco is expected to issue solid fiscal second-quarter profits. However, more cautious corporate spending could hurt profits this year.

FINANCIAL SERVICESFeb. 6, 4 p.m. ESTMetLife (MET) presents fourth-quarter results, with Prudential Financial (PRU) reporting for the same period a day later. Both put out 2008 earnings forecasts that fell shy of analyst estimates.

EUROPE'S CENTRAL BANKSFeb. 7The Bank of England and European Central Bank hold monetary policy meetings. Investors want to see if these banks will lower interest rates after the U.S. Federal Reserve cut rates twice in January.

DEUTSCHE BANK ()Feb. 7, 6 a.m. ESTGermany's largest bank reports full-year results. Investors will be on the lookout for any indications the bank may need to make additional writedowns to its debt holdings after a $3.2 billion writedown last October.

GLAXOSMITHKLINE ()Feb. 7, 7 a.m. ESTThe British drugmaker presents fourth-quarter results. On Jan. 24, Europe's drug regulator told the company to strengthen the labeling on its diabetes drug Avandia to warn that it may increase the risk of a heart attack.

PEPSICO ()Feb. 7, 8:30 a.m. ESTHigher commodity prices may bite into fourth-quarter profits. The beverage and snack maker doesn't foresee a weaker economy hurting sales at home, and growth abroad is strong.
