Cisco Has A New China Partner

On Nov. 22, Cisco Systems announced that it was teaming up with ZTE, China's biggest listed telecom equipment company, to cooperatively sell to Chinese and Asian phone makers. ZTE will now offer some Cisco routers to help land big contracts to build 3G wireless and advanced fixed-line networks. Their apparent aim is to take on Huawei Technologies, the privately held company that is China's No. 1 networking and telecom equipment leader. While Huawei sold just $5 billion in equipment last year vs. Cisco's $24.8 billion in revenue for the year ended July, Cisco has been losing share to Huawei in China. Cisco and ZTE, which had $2.6 billion in sales last year, both compete against Huawei but not each other. Cisco is in networking gear, while ZTE focuses on wireless equipment.
