SPECIAL REPORT: SUPERCOMPUTING
Charbel Farhat, professor of aerospace engineering sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder, uses supercomputers to analyse a flight-engineering phenomenon called flutter-vibrations that can lead to structural damage of an aircraft. This image depicts so-called mach contours and streamlines for a simulation at mach 0.9. Color shows local variation in Mach number at the surface of the aircraft, increasing from blue to red.
