A New French Scandal

It's an all-out media war, and the French can't get enough of it. Just about every major publication in the country has weighed in on the revelations in the new book La Face Cachée du Monde (The Dark Side of Le Monde), released by small publishing house Mille et Une Nuits on Feb. 26. The book accuses the prominent newspaper, which prides itself on being the voice of the Establishment, of everything from shady accounting to favoring certain politicians in its pages.

Le Monde has printed a rebuttal and is suing Mille et Une Nuits for libel. In the meantime, the 634-page book is flying off the shelves. It's on its second print run after readers snapped up the first 60,000 copies.
