Mixing Business & Golf

Other than having to check your bag at the elbow of a boss who doesn't play golf, you really have no good reason for not taking your clubs along on a business trip outside the U.S.--whether it's to Europe, South Africa, Asia, or Canada.

There are accessible golf courses in virtually every major city worldwide, many of them "private" clubs that welcome foreign visitors on weekdays. Here we spotlight a number of them in or near eight common business destinations. For planning purposes, we've converted course information in the listings that follow to U.S. measurements: namely meters to yards. Course ratings, if provided, are those of the course's national golf association.

We asked Golf Digest's international affiliate magazines which courses they would recommend within range of a city's Central Business District (CBD). In cities like Sydney and London, it was difficult to limit their choices. If your business travel is primarily domestic and you're looking for U.S. course advice, check out Golf Digest's Places to Play listings for Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta at www.golfdigest.com or www.businessweek.com.

Yes, it's possible to be serious about business and golf in the same trip. You can always rent equipment if you have to, but pack your golf shoes.
