A New Player on Our Tech Team

From its inception, BusinessWeek has been in the forefront of reporting the impact of technology on business and on our lives. We pioneered coverage of the fledgling information technology industry in the 1960s with a regular feature, Computers & Communications, which was devoted to ferreting out the newest technical advances and what changes they might bring. We have been expanding our coverage ever since.

Seven years ago, we broadened our approach to offer advice and information to tech buyers who were facing a dizzying array of choices. Our first annual Technology Buying Guide, on Nov. 6, 1995, focused primarily on computers, but it quickly expanded beyond PCs, laptops, and printers to all manner of technology--from cell phones and wireless communications to the high-tech fads of the moment such as cybervisors (so 2001).

Now, there's a new member of our team: CNET Networks Inc. (CNET ), a leading provider of technology information on the Web. Our eighth annual Technology Buying Guide combines the insight and recommendations of the BusinessWeek staff with rigorous product testing provided by CNET's crew. We think the two teams complement one another and will make our joint effort an even more valuable shopping tool. You can see the results for yourself inside--rankings and reviews and the special selection of hot products.

For many additional recommendations--visit our Web sites, BusinessWeek Online (businessweek.com) and CNET.com. You'll find reviews of individual products written by CNET's talented staff members, as well as up-to-the-minute pricing information. You can also see some of the products and reviews featured in our buying guide on BusinessWeek TV. For local listings and times, visit businessweek.com/bwtv.

This year, there's even more to our annual compendium of what's hot. We've added a new section on technology products for entertainment and leisure. We call it The Digital Home. BusinessWeek and CNET have tried out everything from home networks that are easy to understand to digital cameras that produce shots even the pros would send to their mothers.

We think you'll like this year's mix of productivity and personal tools.
