In "For Spain's Botín family, `banking is everything"' (Finance, March 4), Emilio Botín was incorrectly identified as Basque. He is Cantabrian. Also, Santander Central Hispano's sum of $1.1 billion in Argentina was not a writedown of assets but a provision against losses.
