Telefónica Moviles

(CATS: TEM)

Spain

With nearly 100 million subscribers, the mobile-phone unit of Spain's Telefonica is one of the world's biggest mobile operators— and it's still growing briskly. Revenues rose 40% last year, to $21.2 billion, as the company continued rapid expansion in Latin America, which now accounts for almost 50% of its business. Profits were up a healthy 13.4%, to $2.4 billion. It's the main source of growth for parent company Telefonica, which owns more than 90% of the mobile-phone operator. By the end of this year, that stake will be 100%.
