Ericsson (LM)

(ZGSE: ERNT-R-A)

Sweden

Under CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg, who arrived in 2003, Stockholm-based Ericsson, the leading maker of mobile telecom networks, has recovered nicely from a near-death experience during the telecom bust. Putting its handset business into the London-based Sony-Ericsson joint venture has allowed the company to focus on what it does best—selling to network operators. Ericsson continues to benefit from its early move into the service side of the business. With outsourcing growing among operators, its professional services unit continues to grow rapidly, recording a 60% year-over-year revenue gain in the first quarter of 2006, to about $1 billion. Ericsson also is participating in consolidation of the industry. Last year it bought Britain's telecom equipment maker Marconi for $2.3 billion. For 2005, operating income was $4.6 billion on revenue of $21 billion.
