Quanta Computer

(TSEC: 2382)

Taiwan

The world's leading producer of notebook PCs is going through a transition. In March, the company teamed up with Sanyo Electric to form a joint venture to produce LCD TVs for the Japanese company. Meanwhile, in April, Quanta sold its struggling Quanta Display subsidiary, which makes the panels used in LCD TVs and PC monitors, to bigger Taiwanese rival AU Optronics in a $2.2 billion stock swap. And the company is a key partner with Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Nicholas Negroponte's innovative project to create a $100 laptop. The first models are due to come out of Quanta by yearend.
