Brightpoint

(NasdaqNM: CELL)

USA

Ever wonder how the cell phones you buy get packaged and shipped to retailers around the world? Well, Brightpoint makes it happen. The Plainfield (Ind.) company distributes all sorts of wireless phones, PDAs, and accessories for Nokia, Motorola, and more. In total, it handled 42 million wireless devices in 2005. But Brightpoint doesn't just move equipment. Services are becoming a big part of its business, especially for new virtual wireless operators such as Disney Mobile and the youth-oriented brand Helio. These nontraditional carriers go to Brightpoint for inventory management, custom packaging, software loading, and credit services. After struggling through a severe financial crisis a few years ago, Brightpoint appears fully recovered, riding the new wireless wave to a 23% sales increase over the past year, to $2.2 billion in sales.
